A fundraising event has raised more than £2,500 for the victims of the Nepal earthquake.

Over 200 people attended the charitable fundraiser, organised by the Council of Asian People, at the Asian Centre in Caxton Road, Wood Green, and enjoyed a traditional Nepalese band, as well as traditional singing and dancing.

Newly elected MP for Hornsey & Wood Green Catherine West made an appearance along with a number of councillors and a military attaché to the Nepal embassy.

Ms West said: “The appalling earthquake in Nepal united our community in sorrow at the lives lost and the devastation caused.

“Funds are desperately needed to help the people of Nepal rebuild and I was delighted to be part of the Asian Centre’s fundraiser.

“It was a wonderful evening and I would like to thank everyone involved in arranging such a successful event”

In total the gathering on Saturday evening raised £2801.61 which will be handed directly to the Nepalese embassy.
